Vinyl Record Price Guide: Discover The Value Of Collecting Records

June 21, 2021 2 Comments

Do you remember your first vinyl record?

In this post, Vinyl Record Price Guide: Discover The Value Of Collecting Records, we’ll cover a brief history of the vinyl record, grading vinyl for price evaluation and wrap up with a few of the most expensive vinyl records ever sold!

The history of records

The earliest “records” were actually just wax cylinders invented by Thomas Edison in the 1880’s.

By 1888, inventor Emile Berliner came up with the 78 as an alternative. He called it a “flat disc,” and experimented with different types of materials before settling on shellac in 1891.

Edison would in return, respond with his own, much thicker version of that flat disc. He claimed better quality sound and many would agree that he was right.

However, Berliner’s 78’s would eventually win this battle and by the end of the decade, Edison’s version was no longer being produced, according to Goldmine’s Essential Guide to Record Collecting.

Luggage bags, like so many other mundane items that we take for granted in our day to day lives, could very well become the next desirable collectible.

Despite the various materials that have been used to make the different types and styles of luggage bags over the years, few pieces have managed to last the test of time. Sometimes they were damaged by the elements, handled too roughly by baggage handlers, maybe even thrown around in cargo holders or simply lost in transit never to be seen again.

The value of an antique item can differ from one person to another. For example, your grandmothers wedding ring may be extremely valuable to those within your family while others may not see the worth. Or perhaps you may not see the worth in an item that you attempt to auction to be shocked when it sells for millions upon millions just like the Pinner Qing Dynasty Vase.

Antique Canes and Walking Sticks Price Guide

October 24, 2016 1 Comment

Antique canes and walking sticks are about so much more than you can imagine. The golden era of canes is from 1550 to 1930. Most people think that canes and walking sticks were used for the purpose of supporting people; however that couldn’t be further from the truth. Canes were a reflection of the culture and a lady and gentleman never went anywhere without one. Canes were made of ivory, porcelain, enamel, gold, silver, hand carved wood, glass, narwhal tusk, Bakelite, whale bone, rhino horn, ebony, snake wood, Wedgwood, gemstones just to name a few. There were 1500 patents for gadget canes in America alone. There are gadget gun canes, sword canes, musical, political, Doctor, compact, perfume, flask, picnic, microscope, fishing pole, scientific instrument, pipe, cigarette holder, vinaigrette, barometer, undertaker, and horse measure. Name an occupation and there is probably a walking stick to represent it.

Antique Glass-Art Price Guide

Glass art is usually understood to refer to large modern works of art, typically one-off creations, which are substantially or wholly made in glass. It is distinguished from “art glass” and “studio glass” which are typically smaller and often made in editions of many identical pieces, but the boundaries are not clear-cut. Glass art is more likely to be exhibited in public spaces rather than in homes.
