While the majority of antique enthusiasts know of or collect Hummel Figurines, the later produced Hummel Plates were not as widely collected. The first line of Hummel figurines were produced during 1935 but it wasn’t until 1971 that the annual Hummel Plates were released.
While some Hummel Figurines are priced well into the thousands, their cousins, the Hummel Plates are worth a lot less.
Production: The Original Hummel Annual Plates were produced from 1971 until 1995.
Crocks, earth-ware pots or jars have been made for centuries, hand crafted in multiple countries around the world. It is thought crocks originated in France, although it wasn’t until the 1900’s that these stone kitchenware items were found in every American household. Crocks have many uses and continue to be used in modern day society. During the early 1900’s women would often store hand made butter or pickles in crocks. Today, many choose to use crocks as pot plants or to hold decorative items. The many timeless uses of crocks have made them increasingly popular amongst antique collectors.
The Lladro (Lladró) story began in 1953 when three brothers used their bare hands to create the beginning of a now large scale Spanish porcelain company. Brothers; Juan, Jose, and Vicente Lladro had a passion for art and were first inspired by European manufacturers of Meissen. This inspiration led them to create plates, vases and ceramic figurines. Situated in Almácera, Spain the brothers worked on their handcrafted creations for almost seven years before opening their first shop in Valencia.
In today’s society, Lladro pieces are highly sought after by collectors. Amongst the most valuable are ‘biblical scenes’, the ‘Don Quixote’ series and ‘wedding related’ ornaments to name just a few. [Read more…]
Glass art is usually understood to refer to large modern works of art, typically one-off creations, which are substantially or wholly made in glass. It is distinguished from “art glass” and “studio glass” which are typically smaller and often made in editions of many identical pieces, but the boundaries are not clear-cut. Glass art is more likely to be exhibited in public spaces rather than in homes.
The history of painting reaches back in time to artifacts from pre-historic humans, and spans all cultures. It represents a continuous, though periodically disrupted tradition from Antiquity. Across cultures, and spanning continents and millennia, the history of painting is an ongoing river of creativity, that continues into the 21st century.
